✨ Things I Wish I Knew Before Starting My Hair Business
Starting a hair business looks glamorous from the outside. You see the beautiful packaging, the gorgeous hair, the website, the content, and the finished products.
But behind all of that is a whole learning process.
If I could go back to the beginning, there are so many things I would tell myself before placing that first order or building that first product page.
Here are some of the biggest lessons I’ve learned so far.
💎 1. You Don’t Need Everything at Once
When you’re excited about your business, it’s easy to want to sell everything.
Different textures.
Different lengths.
Wigs.
Bundles.
Closures.
Hair products.
Beauty products.
But you don’t have to launch your entire vision on day one.
Start with products you genuinely believe in and build from there.
Your collection can grow as your business grows.
💰 2. Your Money Needs a Plan
One of the biggest lessons in business is learning that revenue isn’t the same thing as profit.
There are products to purchase, packaging, shipping supplies, website expenses, marketing, and other business costs.
Before spending money, ask yourself:
“Is this helping my business grow?”
Being excited about your brand is important—but being strategic with your money is even more important.
📦 3. Product Quality Comes First
Your brand name might get someone’s attention.
Your photos might get them to your website.
But your product experience is what makes them come back.
That’s why testing products and paying attention to quality matters so much.
I want customers to receive their Stargurl Luxe products and immediately understand why the brand is called Luxe.
📱 4. You Have to Market Your Business
You can have the most beautiful products in the world, but if nobody knows they exist, they can’t buy them.
I’ve learned that marketing isn’t something you do only when you have a sale.
You have to consistently show up.
Create content.
Tell your story.
Show behind the scenes.
Educate your customers.
Talk about your products.
Let people get to know the person behind the brand.
👑 5. Don’t Compare Your Beginning to Someone Else’s Middle
This one is HUGE.
Social media can make it look like everyone else figured everything out overnight.
But you don’t see the years of work that happened before the success became visible.
Your first followers won’t look like someone else’s 100,000 followers.
Your first sale won’t look like someone’s thousandth sale.
And that’s okay.
You are building your own story.
✨ 6. Your Brand Needs a Personality
I didn’t want Stargurl Luxe to feel like just another hair website.
I wanted it to have an identity.
A feeling.
A personality.
That’s why the Stargurl aesthetic is feminine, bold, glamorous, cosmic, and unapologetic.
Your customers should be able to recognize your brand before they even see your name.
💕 7. Give Yourself Permission to Learn
You are going to make mistakes.
You’re going to change your mind.
Some ideas will work.
Some won’t.
You’ll learn things you didn’t know you needed to learn.
And that’s okay.
Entrepreneurship isn’t about knowing everything before you start.
It’s about being willing to figure it out.
🌟 The Biggest Lesson
If there’s one thing I wish I knew before starting my hair business, it’s this:
You don’t need to have the entire roadmap. You just need to take the next step.
Start.
Learn.
Adjust.
Keep going.
The dream becomes real through the small decisions you make every day.
And Stargurl Luxe is still just getting started.
Welcome to the Stargurl Era. ✨
